About this role

The Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) team is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of BlackRock’s index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and ground breaking alpha insights. MASS constructs active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels. Currently, MASS handles over $1 trillion in assets and has a strong presence in San Francisco, New York, London, Asia Pacific region, and a growing team in Budapest.

Role Overview

The MASS portfolio management team is seeking a motivated individual with financial knowledge and a proven technical background to drive development of our Python-based investment platform. At the intersection of technology and asset management, the systems you build will drive investment results across thousands of clients in our Model Portfolios business, one of the most significant evolutions in the Wealth Management industry over the last decade and a growth driver within MASS and BlackRock.

The position will be a hybrid role (70% Technology / 30% Portfolio Management).

Technical Responsibilities

  • Research and design generative AI systems to build scale in portfolio management

  • Leverage BlackRock’s wider tech platform and Aladdin engineering teams to integrate new developments and data via APIs and SQL queries

  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to translate investment workflows into scalable technology solutions to mitigate risk and improve efficiency

  • Maintain and evolve existing applications including deployment, documentation, testing, and coding standards

Portfolio Management Responsibilities

  • Partner with client-facing managers to configure client portfolios for the best client outcomes

  • Leverage risk and compliance tooling to implement an investment thesis across ranges of model portfolios

  • Collaborate with full-time portfolio managers to build effective workflows for running portfolios at scale

Required Skills

  • Passion for crafting innovative investing solutions and to challenge the status quo

  • Experience implementing design patterns using one or more objected-oriented languages (e.g. Python, Java, C/C++)

  • Familiarity with git

  • Knowledge of relational databases

  • BS in computer science or similar

  • Experience solving technical, interdisciplinary challenges in a collaborative team setting

Preferred Skills

  • Understanding of financial market and portfolio management concepts

  • Experience with Python packages/frameworks (Pandas, Numpy)

  • Experience building financial applications

  • Experience with using generative AI through APIs

For San Francisco, CA Only the salary range for this position is USD$116,000.00 - USD$155,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model
