Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Is responsible for providing advanced medical nutrition therapy and care to patients with complex medical conditions in a large, fast-paced academic setting. Key responsibilities include performing comprehensive nutrition assessments and reassessments, developing individualized care plans, documenting in electronic health records, providing patient education, and implementing and monitoring nutrition interventions. This includes diagnosing malnutrition, conducting Nutrition-Focused Physical Exams (NFPE), managing therapeutic diets, nutrition education, and enteral/parenteral nutrition.   The Dietitian II works collaboratively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, medical staff, ancillary staff, and food service personnel.  The RD II also participates in department activities and meetings, including performance improvement initiatives. 

Job Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian credentialing through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • 2 years with a master's degree, OR 4 years without a master's degree
  • Knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy with focus on chronic disease management
  • Manage and optimize enteral (EN) and total parenteral nutrition (TPN) support plans
  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments, including interpreting labs and medical history
  • Perform nutritional-focused physical exams (NFPE) and accurate malnutrition diagnoses
  • Knowledge of food service systems, menu planning, and food safety
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records and nutrition software system
  • Clear communication with patients and interdisciplinary teams (e.g., CICARE)
  • Age-appropriate patient nutrition education
  • Critical thinking and clinical judgment
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Time management and prioritization
  • Cultural competence and awareness of social determinants of
