Department Description

The Development Tech Architecture and Engineering team within R&D Digital and Tech drives innovation and delivers cutting-edge technology solutions to support GSK's research and development goals. This team focuses on designing scalable, secure, and efficient architectures, enabling seamless integration of digital tools and platforms. By leveraging advanced engineering practices, the team ensures the effective delivery of solutions that accelerate scientific discovery and optimize operational processes.

Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Software Engineering Intern to join our Development Tech Architecture and Engineering team within R&D Digital and Tech for a 12-week summer placement. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative digital solutions that empower cutting-edge research and drive advancements in healthcare.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and test software applications supporting R&D digital initiatives.
  • Write clean, efficient, and scalable code using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving development standards and practices.
  • Analyze technical requirements and propose solutions to enhance system functionality.
  • Conduct debugging, testing, and optimization to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Document workflows, technical processes, and system designs for knowledge sharing and continuity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong understanding of programming fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work full-time (35-40 hours/week) throughout the duration of the 12 week internship (May/June ~ August 2026).
  • Must have an active student status and/or within 12 months post-graduation from a BS or MS degree program. Post-doctoral candidates are not eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of programming fundamentals, preferably Python and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to new challenges.
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute to innovative projects within a fast-paced environment.

  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check prior to assignment target start date.
