About the role

Registered Nurse (Bellingham)

As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the RN provides direct nursing services to clients and oversees provision of treatment by program staff to ensure high quality client care. The RN is responsible for providing direction to program staff in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager, or Director.

The new team member will support the following job duties:

  • Administers injectable psychiatric medications in accordance with prescriptions from a physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Performs a nursing assessment of the client’s mental and physical status.
  • Participates as a member of the medical staff team.
  • Confers with primary clinicians on issues of medication compliance and response.
  • Maintains a flexible schedule and is available on short notice.
  • Administers medication to clients, monitors client responses to medication, and provides individualized medication education.
  • Stocks and orders medications and medical supplies.
  • Conducts medication education as needed.
  • Takes orders for medications and refills medications to pharmacies.
  • Provides nursing assessment and physical care including but not limited to monitoring of vital signs, checking weight and reading lab results.
  • Completes nursing notes, transcribes physician and ARNP orders and other paperwork necessary for continuity of care.
  • Responds to medical emergencies and performs appropriate nursing/medical and first aid interventions.
  • Maintains samples as needed.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled supervision and team meetings.
  • Remains compliant with required trainings and certifications.
  • Behaves in an ethical and professional manner consistent with agency policy, state law, and licensing entities if applicable.
  • Understands and practices safekeeping of client protected health information per Compass Health’s HIPAA and other agency policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates respect for diversity and a commitment to developing multicultural competency and sensitivity.

What you will be bringing

  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse License.
  • 2+ years of full-time psychiatric nursing experience required.
  • Ability to obtain MHP certification within 30-days of hire.
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

What you will be sharing

  • Thorough knowledge of nursing issues pertaining to the patient population served in the program along with thorough understanding of the nursing process and intervention strategies used to address these issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of involuntary commitment laws.
  • Ability to maintain a positive, solution-focused demeanor when responding to conflicts or problems.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to multitask within a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • General computer proficiency, including the ability to utilize electronic medical record systems.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment criminal background check, which may or may not include an additional search by DSHS.
