Role Purpose

The Staff Process Engineer position is responsible for providing technical expertise to ensure the operation produces product that meets all quality, cost, and efficiency requirements. This position will design, develop, and implement continuous process improvements to meet goals established by the business/location, along with providing technical guidance to the plant operations teams to assist with process troubleshooting and developing corrective action plans.

  • Focus on EHS systems, policies, and procedures and their effects on day to day operations.
  • Audit and review EHS effectiveness in the plant.

As a member of the Engineering Team incumbent shares overall responsibility for:

  • Embed a PSM culture in our EHS Management System at the facilities and develop local knowledge
  • Provide regulatory interpretation and technical support on process safety matters and site projects
  • Coordinate Compliance efforts in line with COMAH/OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM)and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) rules

Main Accountabilities

  • In addition to the requirements of a Level 1 Production Engineer, entry to this position is based on additional experience and professional competence. Typically, an incumbent would remain at this level for 3 years while gaining additional experience and expertise.
  • Will conduct and/or participate in engineering projects. Monitors day-to day production results. Translate process to flow sheet representation. Designs and specifies operation of plant processes. Obtains, organizes and interprets engineering data. Performs economic and technical analyses of projects.
  • Assists in preparing engineering proposals. Assists in developing findings, draws conclusions and makes recommendations. Prepares engineering reports and cost estimates. The demonstrated ability to develop findings, draw conclusions and make recommendations on one’s own is required for promotion to the next level.
  • Contributes to the design of the engineering projects including ideas for safer, less expensive or new techniques whether or not situation is related to a specific project.
  • Responsible for meeting engineering assignments within time and budget constraints.
  • Applies standard engineering theories, concepts and techniques. Applies a working knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Works on a wider range of troubleshooting problems; uses basic knowledge of the process and creative thinking to solve problems and recommend corrective action. By the end of their tenure in this position, the engineer should have completed and stared up a handful of successful process projects and ideally, the engineer will have assisted in at least one major project start-up.
  • Gains recognition from peers for gaining knowledge in engineering
