The Department of Taxes Finance Division seeks an individual who is passionate about public service, has an eye for details, and brings strong organizational skills. This position will be a part of the team responsible for supporting critical department functions. This team is focused on revenue accounting, processing of all returns and correspondence, forms development and oversight and annual system and vendor testing.
The duties of this position are performed with a large degree of independence and a high level of accuracy and knowledge. This position will report to the Department’s Director of Finance and will regularly coordinate with employees from other Department divisions.
This is a full-time position located in Montpelier, Vermont with opportunities for hybrid telework.
About the Finance Division
This position works in the Finance Division of the Department of Taxes. The Finance Division oversees revenue accounting, returns processing, building management and forms design and development for the entire Department of Taxes. The Revenue Processing section opens, sorts, scans and all of the Department’s mail including all tax returns, correspondence, and payments. The Revenue Accounting section reviews and processes all incoming payments, ensuring that the daily bank deposits, refunds, transfers, and credit card payments are recorded and reconciled between the bank and the accounting systems. The Forms Team develops, designs and oversees all of the forms for the Department. This includes the annual form testing with software vendors – both electronic and paper forms submissions. The Business Office oversees all contracting, computer and communication systems, building security, purchasing and payroll functions for the Department.

Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a standard office setting.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting AND one (1) year or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.
OR
Two years of full-time college coursework OR an Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, office administration or a related field AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.
OR
High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of professional experience in accounting involving maintaining, reviewing, and analyzing accounting or financial data and records to ensure compliance with accepted accounting practices and standards.
OR
One (1) year or more as a Financial Administrator I with the State of Vermont.
OR
Certification as a CPA.
Preferred Qualifications
For some positions preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience.
Special Requirements
For some positions experience working with the VISION system (VISION is the State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required.
