Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Director of Investigations (DOI) within the Department of Health (Department, DOH), Office of Inspector General (OIG).
In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s standards of conduct, as well as any and all policies and procedures applicable to performing the duties of this position. The incumbent will complete Sexual Harassment, Cultural Diversity and Americans with Disabilities Act training within six months of appointment.
Serves as a senior level investigator by conducting Whistle-blower determinations, Whistle-blower investigations, administrative investigations, preliminary inquiries, and management advisories, as assigned by the DOI, in accordance with section 20.055, F.S. and all applicable standards, rules, regulations, and/or policies and procedures, as appropriate. The incumbent may be required to gather background and relevant information; review applicable regulations; develop an investigative plan; conduct interviews, analyze documentation, and formulate conclusions and/or recommendations based upon supporting evidence. Investigations undertaken may often be confidential, extremely sensitive, or highly controversial matters under sometimes stressful conditions. The level of complexity of investigations will vary, but may involve individuals at every level of authority, including senior management.
Prepares objective, accurate, and logical written investigative reports and closure documentation summarizing investigative activities and meets with management to discuss investigative findings, conclusions, and recommendations, when necessary.
Responds to any investigation review notes of the DOI, Deputy Director of Investigations, and Inspector General (IG).
Assists with the complaint intake process which may involve documenting complaints, assessing the complaints, and/or directing complainants to the appropriate authority, when needed.
Seeks written corrective action response from management to investigative activity recommendations and monitors the progress of corrective actions taken by management, as needed.
Obtain, at a minimum, the necessary continuing professional education hours as required by Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspectors General (Green Book) published by the Association of Inspectors General, and any active investigative-related certifications held by the incumbent.
May assist with maintaining OIG’s Accredited status by ensuring a) the Investigations Section complies with relevant Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), Inc. standards and that OIG Directives conform to such standards and b) OIG Directives are up to date and that the required documentation (proofs) are timely compiled and maintained for purposes of re-accreditation assessments.
May be designated by the DOI and/or IG as an Accreditation Manager or Assistant Accreditation Manager.
May mentor, train and/or manage other Investigations Section staff in investigative cases, as directed.
Performs any related work, as assigned by the DOI and IG.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and skills necessary to utilize Microsoft Suite products (including proficient use of Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Ability to conduct personal interviews of subjects, complainants, and witnesses; analyze case records; and synthesize diverse information.
Possesses strong computer, organization, logical/critical thinking, business acumen, and writing skills.
