About the role

It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 50+ million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world's relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.

Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We've been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

The Role

The Core Experiences group's mission is to elevate our key customer flows and experiences, establishing Cash App as a next-generation social bank.

This role is for a Staff iOS Engineer for Emerging UI, a new workstream that is part of the Core Experiences group in Operating Systems. This engineer will work alongside 10 other ICs, but will be responsible for new initiatives.

We're looking for a highly entrepreneurial mobile engineer to help shape the future of Cash App by exploring new opportunities, rapidly prototyping, and transforming ambiguity into concrete experiences. If you thrive in early-stage product development, can navigate between scrappy prototyping and scalable engineering, and enjoy working cross-functionally with design and product teams, this role is for you.

You Will

  • Independently own and drive new initiatives from concept to prototypes, while assessing feasibility.
  • Collaborate closely with design and product teams to refine ideas into functional experiences, while balancing customer impact with technical feasibility.
  • Bring a high degree of autonomy, ownership, and initiative.
  • Deliver features to tens of millions of customers, while maintaining customer trust as a top priority
  • Work across both startup-style, zero-to-one product development and large-scale, established engineering systems.
  • Represent the team in architectural discussions and stakeholder conversations, serving as a bridge between our team and the broader mobile organization.
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence and mentor engineers of all experience levels.
  • Build end-to-end features of the app: networking, persistence, business logic, and UI
  • Craft durable, well-tested code with an unwavering commitment to product quality
  • Invent thoughtful iOS tech and open source it
  • Partner with Android and backend developers on delivering remarkable solutions
  • Have a meaningful impact on the future of the Cash App product

You have:

  • 10+ years of experience creating readable, well-crafted, and maintainable code
  • An ability to build fast and iterate, but also consider long-term scalability when necessary.
  • Experience in early-stage product development, ideally having worked in both a startup and a large company to bridge both worlds.
  • Experience voicing customer feedback into product solutions (engineering makes substantive contributions to product definition)
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally, especially with design, to bring innovative ideas to life.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement (yourself, your teammates, your software)

Technologies we use and teach:

  • Swift, Objective-C, Kotlin (believe it! — we collaborate directly with our friends on Android)
  • UIKit, CoreAnimation, SQLite, Accessibility
  • Unit tests, snapshot tests, integration tests
  • Protocol buffers
