None/Not RequiredImmediate opportunities are available in the Portland, Oregon metro area for talented, motivated systems engineers to design, develop, and test a variety of avionics products including Head-Up Display systems, helmet mounted display systems, vision systems, and innovative new display products geared toward the commercial, corporate and military aircraft markets. With an emphasis on product quality, we are developing systems which bring improved value to the flight deck through enhanced situational awareness, lower operating minima, and added safety benefits. From being the Head-Up Display provider for the Boeing Dreamliner to the Helmet Mounted Display provider for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, Collins Aerospace continues to build trust every day.
Our Systems Engineering team is responsible for helmet mounted display system requirement definition, including the definition of interfaces with other aircraft systems, the definition of desired functionality (including display formats and behaviors), and the verification and validation of the correct implementation of these defined characteristics, as well as LRU system definition and qualification. This role will initially work under the direction of a Lead Systems Engineer on one or more development programs and will be involved in the preparation of system-level verification procedures and the execution of those procedures. Growth to a lead engineer position is encouraged.
This role will be onsite in Wilsonville, OR. Relocation assistance is available.
What You Will Do:
Characterize, test, and develop algorithms for optical systems
Identify system-level requirements and prepare system specifications, system descriptions, wiring diagrams, interface control documents, and sub-assembly requirement documentation
Provide conceptual design to foster decomposition of the system requirements into lower-level requirements; working collaboratively with a hardware engineering design team to develop functions into their design states
Prepare and participate in system design reviews in accordance with MIL-STD-1521, or similar internal process
Develop system integration cases and procedures of optical components and sub-assemblies
Develop and perform verification testing of optical components and sub-assemblies
Create traceability artifacts from system functional requirements
Create and present systems and optical content for all design reviews, both internal and external
Seek to identify possible problems presented in applicable projects that may cause a delay or exceed budget and contribute to finding appropriate solutions
Work within a multidisciplinary team to bring products to market
Work under the guidance of a Lead Systems engineer
What You Will Learn:
Data collection and analysis to prepare technical reports of findings and recommendations
Algorithm development for characterizing optical display performance
Optical, electrical, and mechanical hardware integration
Requirement development to meet customer needs and create the best product possible
Design, development, and production of augmented reality display systems for inflight use
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Experience with requirements definition and verification, including interface definition and a basic knowledge of physics, electrical, mechanical, structural and/or optical design
Must be willing to travel 10% or as needed
Qualifications We Prefer:
Military avionics deployment and testing
Hands on experience performing optical tests in a lab environment
Display testing experience
Augmented Reality display systems experience
