Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.


I. POSITION OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this position is to support the safe, reliable, and efficient daily operations of the VCM unit by serving as the operations staff lead for digital systems, including the J5 Operations Management System and the Distributed Control System (DCS). This role helps ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, supports process optimization efforts, and provides frontline coordination for control systems, digital workflows, and operational troubleshooting. The position works closely with control room operators, engineers, and maintenance teams to ensure systems are operating effectively, procedures are followed, and continuous improvement opportunities are identified and implemented. The role also supports plant initiatives such as NTG (Nothing Touches the Ground) and NVP (No Visual Pollution) to sustain a safe and high-standard operating environment.
II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Operations System Support and Optimization: Provide daily support for the VCM unit’s digital operations platforms, including the J5 Operations Management System and the Distributed Control System (DCS). Ensure that these systems are configured and maintained to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations. Collaborate with operators and engineers to optimize control logic, improve digital workflows, and ensure effective shift handovers, work permitting, and compliance tracking. Monitor system health, resolve issues proactively, and escalate concerns as needed to maintain high reliability and operational effectiveness.
Process Monitoring and Issue Resolution: Regularly review daily, weekly, and monthly logs to identify process deviations or system abnormalities. Communicate findings through structured reports and coordinate follow-ups with appropriate teams (e.g., Operations Staff, Maintenance, Engineering). Support troubleshooting efforts by gathering data from control systems, historical records, and operators to help identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement and Project Support: Drive improvements in productivity and operational excellence by participating in process reviews, incident investigations, and optimization efforts. Utilize tools such as KMS and J5 to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend enhancements. Support initiatives that improve equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance operator performance. Assist in implementing upgrades to control systems and workflows to meet evolving operational needs.
Maintenance Coordination and Follow-up: Work closely with the Instrument and Electrical Maintenance teams to support the timely resolution of equipment and control system issues. Participate in loop checks, interlock verifications, and basic DCS updates or reconfigurations. Ensure that repairs are documented, tracked, and verified for completion to reduce recurring failures and improve overall unit reliability.
