Job Summary:

 

The Assistant Director of Patient Observation/Safety & Transportation reports to our Director at a 500+ bed hospital account in Austin and assists the Director in all operational needs of the department at this account plus a smaller hospital 1/2 mile away. This role will work a varied schedule to include some holidays/weekends. The Assistant Director will lead a team of 2 managers and 43 associates. Annual bonus potential, generous paid time off and a cell phone stipend are included!

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Works closely with Unit Director to develop department operating budget and ensures the department operates within budget
  • Approximately 20% Rounding, 35% Financials, 10% Presentations, 25% Data Entry, 10% Travel
  • Monitors flow and quality of work to ensure timely completion of workload and adherence to facility's standards and regulations
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental records, logs, and reports
  • Work with Director to establish and implement standards, policies, and procedures for departmental operations
  • Conducts regular management staff meetings and connects with staff members to coordinate activities with other departments
  • Ensures department is in an "inspection ready" state at all times, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Evaluates and justifies supplies, equipment, and purchases as needed
  • Administers required client/customer surveys (and other feedback instruments) and respond in a timely and effective manner
  • Directs, coaches, orients, trains, and develops Patient Flow Managers, Patient Flow Coordinators, and Supervisors
  • Takes action to ensure that all corporate quality and service standards are met
  • Ensures all quality assurance targets for department are met
  • Demonstrates good communication and listening skills with clients, customers, and employees
  • Follows all Company and Client policies and procedures
  • Ensures that all employees demonstrate a respectful and hospitable demeanor toward customers and clients
  • Responsible for productivity and staffing that is appropriate to the account
  • Promotes teamwork and encourages employee creativity and innovation
  • Provides recognition for employees when performance goes above and beyond
  • Coaches and counsels associates as needed; provide continuous feedback on performance and applies appropriate developmental tools to assist in their individual growth
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associate’s degree required; or equivalent and relevant experience
  • At least 1-3 years of experience preferred in: patient transport, patient safety/care/observation; prior management experience required
  • Strong work ethic, drive and initiative for quality and customer service
  • Excellent stress management skills, administrative and organizational, and follow-through (with associates and clients) skills required
  • Able to communicate effectively with management team, guests and team members
  • Proficient in the use of Windows based office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, preferred
