JOB SUMMARY: Directs and/or supervises clinical staff and coordinates site clinical functions and protocols within the practice. Develops and monitors programs, policies and procedures designed to improve the quality of health care delivery. Gathers data for quality care reporting and uses it for internal and external benchmarking. Assists with educating the office about promoting quality care.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with three years' experience in a clinic setting preferred. Master's degree required.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Delivers physical care to patients including administers medications, collects and processes specimens, facilitates care coordination, oversees referrals and verification of insurance coverage, maintains current protocols and procedures.
2. Administers clinical policies and procedures in a timely manner. Practices sterile technique and universal precautions. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
3. Ensures high-quality patient care of nursing staff by mentoring and educating.
4. Provides a broad range of clinical and managerial support to the provider and practice. Coordinates the work activities and schedules for clinical staff.
5. Evaluates performance of clinical staff and coordinates with office manager the recommendations for merit increases and/or disciplinary action. Oversees appropriate scheduling of staffing coverage, including planned and unplanned absences, patient lab reporting system, inventory control, and medical supply ordering.
6. Adheres to North Carolina controlled substance regulations. Administers medications as directed by provider.
7. Accurately charts patient information in the medical record, reviews with provider, and obtains provider?s signature.
8. Identify and accumulate data necessary for development of performance and quality metrics.
9. Develops and monitors programs designed to improve the quality of health care delivery. Evaluates systems and procedures within an office and help implement quality programs.
10. Assists with periodic in-services, educational programs for employees and physicians regarding quality care related subjects. Educate as to why quality care may involve changes. Assists with patient satisfaction surveys.
11. May participate on committees directed towards promoting quality care.
12. Receives complaints and claims related to professional liability and HIPAA compliance. Works with manager in responding to complaint or claim.
13. Enhances professional growth and development through in-service meetings, educational programs and conferences, and participates in committees as requested.
14. Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials. Communicates provider advice/instructions to patients. Communicates effectively and courteously on the telephone and in person with patients and colleagues. Provides a friendly, safe, timely, quality-driven environment responsive to patient needs.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills Knowledge of professional nursing practices including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and protocols Knowledge of management and leadership principles including program development, implementation, and evaluation Knowledge of health care field and medical specialty Knowledge of computer systems and applications Knowledge of medical terminology Knowledge of common safety hazards and universal precautions to establish a safe work environment
