About the role

As Scout’s Capital Markets Senior Associate, you will play a key role in project financings for our growing portfolio of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects. Your work will include a combination of engagement with capital providers (debt, tax equity, and equity), transaction development and execution, and support of teams across the organization.  You will support day-to-day management of transactions and will represent Scout with authentic professionalism to all our business partners and counterparties. In short, you will help to improve Scout’s investment strategies across the entire portfolio of projects.

You will be responsible for project finance modeling, engagement with third-party consultants, reviewing project and transaction documentation, and internal approval processes. Your work will impact many functions across Scout, including:

  • Project Finance: You will provide key support to project finance transactions. Beyond your financial analysis support, you will serve as an important point of interface with counterparties, advancing Scout’s negotiating position and initiating and responding to diligence requests.

  • Corporate Finance: While most of your work will focus on project-level finance, you will also inform corporate-level financial modeling from time to time. This may include integrating the results of the project models, conducting more specific analysis, preparing reports for our investors, and preparing board papers that present the case for alternative investment options.

We will rely on you to develop systems and tools to drive efficiency in our work. To do so, we expect that you will integrate the expertise you have developed in previous roles while continuing to advance your knowledge of our industry and innovation in renewable energy project finance.

You will report to Scout’s Senior Manager or Associate Director of Project Finance / Capital Markets and will work alongside a high performing team of Analysts.

Key duties in your role will include the following:

  • Develop and maintain fully structured (tax equity, debt and cash equity) internal financial model with recent project and corporate assumptions.
  • Coordinate with many different departments internally to update financial models.
  • Leverage your subject matter expertise to direct and deliver scenario modeling for investment decisions and contract negotiations.
  • Support project finance and M&A transactions, including initiating and responding to due diligence and interfacing with investors and other counterparties and business partners.
  • Assist in building models, tools, process, and infrastructure that supports the organization's accuracy, efficiency and scalability.
  • Assist in managing construction loan drawdowns and financing agreement compliance.
  • Assist with project budgeting and corporate reporting.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience with project finance models in investment banking and/or the renewable energy industry, including modeling tax equity and debt structures.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (including VBA), Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Independent learner who can quickly apply lessons learned in one area to all other work areas.
  • Self-motivator with exceptional leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver top-quality work product in multiple areas without direct supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and to meet deadlines and complete time-sensitive duties.
  • Experience using influence rather than authority to achieve desired outcomes.

Organizational Fit

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a flat organization, successfully leveraging the expertise of multiple colleagues in different lines of reporting.
  • Strong communication, project management and team-building skills experience working with cross- functional internal and external technical advisors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to multi-task and arbitrate between conflicting priorities with clear target setting and follow- through capability in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
