About the role

Sixth Street’s Summer Internship program is an opportunity for rising seniors to learn how to be a fundamental investor at a fast-paced, top-tier global investment Firm. At Sixth Street, our team builds businesses, invests for growth, acquires assets, provides direct financing, identifies value in public markets, purchases royalty streams, and regularly develops first-of-their-kind structures to meet the strategic objectives of companies and management teams across all stages of growth.

Overview of Program:

  • Participate in a 10-week internship program designed to give you a robust understanding of Sixth Street’s investing strategies
  • Acquire extensive training and develop your understanding of financial products, underwriting, modeling, and accounting
  • Obtain hands-on, meaningful, and substantive work experience in a small class that is representative of our Analyst Program
  • Gain investing acumen across geographies and asset classes (debt and equity)
  • Perform in-depth industry research to support our investment evaluation process
  • Get exposure to senior management and a network of alternative asset management industry leaders
  • Conduct due diligence on investment opportunities, including in-depth analysis on companies and industries (detailed valuation and financial modeling, sensitivity analysis, DCF analysis, and comparable analysis)
    • Develop and maintain financial models (Excel), forecasting and analyzing cash flow, capital structure, acquisition / disposition strategy, for existing assets and new investments
    • Prepare investment memoranda to support financial analysis, analyze market conditions (macro and micro), and outline strategy and investment returns

Investing Internship Placement Opportunities:

  • San Francisco Office: Growth, Healthcare
  • New York Office: Asset Based Finance, Credit Market Strategies, Structured Credit 
  • Austin Office: Direct Lending, Growth

Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates will ideally be pursuing a BA/BS degree
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited program and must be on track to graduate in either Winter 2025 or Spring 2026
  • Excellent academic record – please include GPA on your resume and note that we may request a copy of your transcript
  • Applicable coursework or previous internship in the field of investments or financial markets
  • Excellent work ethic and high degree of professionalism
  • Commitment to a team and goal-oriented environment
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity

Investing Teams Overview

Asset Based Finance – New York

Sixth Street Asset Based Finance focuses on asset/platform investing and origination across finance markets, including commercial and residential mortgages, renewables and energy finance, consumer asset classes, infrastructure debt, transportation, and commercial equipment. Our Asset Based Finance business works closely with the Firm’s Insurance platform, including Talcott Financial Group. Asset Based Finance is a key driver of our capabilities as a strategic capital partner to companies and management teams and a solutions provider at scale.

Credit Market Strategies (CMS) – New York

The Sixth Street Credit Market Strategies (CMS) loan analyst team invests in the broadly syndicated leveraged loan market through a variety of investment structures, including CLO securitization vehicles and separately managed accounts. The team underwrites leveraged finance issuers across sectors with analysts developing sector-level expertise, and actively manages its investment vehicles to drive returns for its investors. The loan team works closely with its Structured Credit counterparts to provide comprehensive investment options across leveraged credit.  

Structured Credit – New York

Sixth Street’s Structured Credit team invests across both public and private corporate credit securitizations and structured transactions.  The team looks at investments up and down the capital structure and across the risk-return spectrum.  A large part of the team’s activities are focused on the global CLO market. The team works closely with its counterparts in the CMS leveraged loans group, as well as adjacent Sixth Street business units including the Firm’s Insurance platform, Asset-Backed Finance, Direct Lending, and Fundamental Strategies businesses.
