Manager, Fleet

The Fleet Manager will lead the operation of a results-driven team to transform and optimize our fleet. They will oversee the operation, maintenance, compliance, and optimization of our vehicle fleet.  Through strong leadership, analytical skills, and expertise in fleet management practices, they will work cross-collaboratively across PGE and spearhead business process improvement initiatives to deliver operational outcomes.


Job Description Summary

  • Manages professional associates and/or supervisors. Is accountable for the performance and results of a team.
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
  • Decisions are guided by policies, resources and business plan; receive moderate guidance from manager.
  • Provides subject matter guidance to associates and colleagues.
  • Serves as a companywide expert on fleet related projects and initiatives; leads efforts with internal partners and/or collective bargaining unit to resolve issues or implement improvements.


Key Responsibilities

Fleet Management

  • Manages a team of supervisory and/or professional staff responsible for fleet management.
  • Manage the daily operations of the organization's fleet, including vehicles, equipment, and associated assets.
  • Monitor vehicle utilization and ensure maximum fleet availability.
  • Develop and implement fleet policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Coordinate vehicle procurement, replacement, and disposal activities.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations.
  • Maintain vehicle registrations, licensing, permits, and inspections.
  • Supports safety reviews/investigations and modifications of vehicles when approved.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage fleet operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitors and manages expenditures.
  • Prepare KPIs, reports and financial forecast/recommendations.
  • Ensure financial targets are met.
  • Analyze fleet performance metrics and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Strategy and Planning

  • Develop strategy for overall teams and functions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop, prioritize and implement cross-functional initiatives.
  • Oversee KPI/Scorecard and performance standard development.
  • Oversee development of plans to facilitate employee engagement.

Vendor Management

  • Oversee vendor relationships, including selecting vendors, establishing metrics and service level agreements.
  • Monitoring vendor performance and working with vendors to resolve issues.

Resourcing

  • Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.

Professional Development

  • Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team.
  • Provides guidance in the creation of development plans.
  • Monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback.
  • Completes annual performance management reviews.


Education / Experience

Education     

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or other related field OR equivalent experience in lieu of degree.

Experience

  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive experience in fleet operations, fleet maintenance, transportation services, heavy equipment management, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including at least one year of formal people leadership or significant informal leadership responsibilities such as leading teams, coordinating projects, mentoring employees, or driving operational improvements.
  • Must possess Journey-Level Mechanic status with extensive knowledge of fleet maintenance, diagnostics, repair practices, and safety standards.
