Purpose/Roll of Position
The Department of Mathematical Sciences is seeking a creative and highly motivated FWS undergraduate student worker to serve as a Social Media Assistant. This position will aid the department social media manager in cultivating and highlighting department culture via Instagram and LinkedIn. This position will report to the Academic Advisor and Project Coordinator. 

Duties

  • Research, brainstorming, and development of creative ideas for content and resources that would be compelling to followers, including identifying fun opportunities to showcase department culture, students, and faculty 
  • Identifying relevant campus organizations and interest groups for the department to engage with online 
  • Photography and videography of select on-campus department, student organization, academic, and professional events 
  • Video editing with Instagram's video editing tools for stories and reels 
  • Coordinating and conferring with the SES Communications and Marketing team to adhere to required training and best practices 
  • Other recommendations to the Academic Advisor and Project Coordinator as needed 
  • Using Canva to create graphics and videos for social media
  • Other duties, as necessary and within reason, as assigned by the Academic Advisor and Project Coordinator, Department Chair, and SES Associate Director of Communications and Marketing 

Required Qualifications/Skills

All candidates should be: 

  • Technology-oriented 
  • Comfortable with Instagram and LinkedIn 
  • Proficient in drafting content in English 
  • Competent with the Microsoft Office suite 

Candidates should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable working both in the Department of Mathematical Science’s office and remotely. 

Preferred Qualifications/Skills 

The ideal candidate is: 

  • Naturally talented in communication and design aesthetic 
  • Skilled in graphic design 
  • Familiar with Canva

Rate of Pay

$15.13 per hour

Length of Employment

August 26, 2024 – June 1, 2025

Evaluation Procedures

Evaluation of job performance will be at the end of each semester at which time the student will meet to discuss performance with Supervisor and Department Chair.

Employment Requirements 

This is a part-time hourly position for students eligible for Federal Work Study. Candidates must have received a Federal Work Study on their Financial Aid Award Letter. Students may consult Student Employment regarding further job questions. 

Candidate must be a full-time, enrolled, undergraduate student at Stevens Institute of Technology. Special attention will be paid to applicants whose Major / Program of Study falls within the Department of Mathematical Sciences, but all candidates will be considered.
