This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines (Link: https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon). To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for the transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be a key member of a software team responsible for designing, implementing, and verifying flight software that will fly on a lunar lander. You will share in the team’s impact on the full life cycle of software and vehicle development, from conceptual architectures and requirements through vehicle integration, launch, and flight. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership talent, and passion for our mission to help return humans to the moon.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop flight software for that will fly on the Lunar Mk1 mission.
  • Develop software requirements and architecture in coordination with systems engineering and subsystem owners.
  • Author unit tests, documentation, and participate in code reviews.
  • Mentor software developers on embedded software development practices.
  • Coordinate the technical activities of the team developing vehicle and subsystem management applications.
  • Coordinate efforts to integrate flight software components for testing and verification in Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation environments.
  • Define, implement, and teach software development best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or equivalent in computer, aerospace, or electrical engineering or related field
  • Experience in avionics software development - preferably for space vehicles.
  • 10+ years of embedded software development and testing experience including multi-threaded programming and real-time systems, particularly in C/C++
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with program and executive leadership.
  • Proven experience in requirement derivation, implementation, and verification
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and culture
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion 
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Embody our Blue Origin Leadership Principles with a history of providing technical leadership and mentoring to other team members.
  • Experience working on multiple, concurrent product baselines (product line engineering)
  • Experience working all phases of spacecraft development and operations, including proposals, system definition, design, production, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution.
  • Experience working on multi-component, complex avionics for spacecraft, aircraft, of similar systems.
  • Experience in autonomy, sequencers, state
