About the role

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is seeking an Executive Producer, News for the video team, based at WSJ headquarters in New York. 

This position calls for a deeply experienced editorial leader with exceptional production and management skills, a global mindset and the ability to drive both fast-moving coverage of news and ambitious enterprise projects. The ideal candidate will be decisive, collaborative, and deeply invested in producing exceptional content. You really get storytelling, pacing and building audience connection, and also know how to bring out the best in producers, reporters and correspondents. 

You will work closely with colleagues across the newsroom to deliver distinctive, revelatory and news-making journalism across day-of and breaking news, analytical features, and longer-lede enterprise and investigative journalism. You’ll shape ideas, push creative and build compelling new formats.

This is both a leadership and hands-on role. 

You will:

  • Lead and mentor news and enterprise teams in New York, fostering collaboration, growth and innovation.

  • Drive coverage of daily and breaking news, while also overseeing news bounce pieces, midform and longer form field pieces, and the enterprise team under a Sr Supervising Producer, Enterprise.

  • Shape and refine story ideas, scripts and edits to ensure high production values and the highest journalistic standards.

  • Collaborate with newsroom leaders and reporting teams to develop and build video journalism pieces across all formats and partner to align and complement our overall editorial strategy. 

  • Partner with strategy, product and audience teams to develop distinctive video formats that resonate with audiences.

  • Work closely with video leadership team and to develop new and engaging formats for our journalism.

  • Build relationships with the global newsroom in order to develop a more video-forward way of thinking.

  • Constantly evaluate our video journalism with an eye for building new methods of storytelling.

You have:

  • 10+ years’ experience in a daily video news environment, including managing global teams.

  • A track record of producing distinctive international, geopolitical and business coverage alongside enterprise and investigative work.

  • Exceptional editorial judgment, communication and decision-making skills under pressure.

  • Strong script-writing and editing experience under tight deadlines.

  • Experience with documentary and series development and production.

  • Experience running field teams across the globe, including in high-risk situations.

  • Deep knowledge of global politics, economics and current affairs, plus a sharp eye for stories that resonate with WSJ’s audience.

  • Experience building a strategic vision for ambitious journalism across coverage areas and formats.

  • Experience working with reporters and correspondents to develop a voice and on-camera style

  • An impeccable eye for the smallest details

  • The ability to foster and facilitate the personal development of team members
