What You’ll Do:
Administers care to patients and performs various patient care activities and tasks in collaboration with and under the direction of emergency medicine providers and nurses. Collaborates with other staff members in the performance of duties. Complies with all established standards and practices.
How You’ll Do It:
Provide basic and advanced life support treatment, care and evaluation of patients.
Provides ongoing care and accurate required documentation in EPIC
Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records information on patients' charts. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
Monitor, record and communicate patient condition and treatment, as appropriate.
Initiate and implement interventions based on protocols. Assists with treatments and tests ordered by provider as supervised by provider or registered nurse as necessary. Performs select clinical duties after demonstration of clinical competency and in accordance with hospital and professional scope of practice.
Identify, intervene, and stabilize the ill or injured patient under the direction, and in collaboration with a physician and/or Registered Nurse.
Provide population specific education to the patient and family about the patient's illness and therapeutic interventions.
Collaborate with the nursing and provider teams to provide specific care such as protocol medication administration, patient reassessment, breathing treatments and suctioning support, peripheral IV placement, diagnosis and acuity specific discharge teaching.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Requirements:
Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required.
Currently licensed as a Basic EMT, Advanced EMT or Paramedic in the state of Wisconsin OR Medical Assistant Certification.
High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
Successful completion of a state approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic program or course, or graduate of Medical Assistant Program (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant)
Schedule Details:
12 hours/week, 1 Night shift
If hired attendance will be required the first week at a New Employee Welcome day on Monday from 9a-4p. There are 3 days of central care partner orientation from 8a-4:30p on Tuesday, Wed and Thursday that first week.
Unit Description: The Emergency Department/Trauma Center provides emergency health care for children and adolescents up until their 18th birthday who present for care.. Emergency care is provided for all types of illnesses and injuries, 24 hours a day.
