The individual in this position represents the College and the Transportation Department in the community by delivering all components of the Driver Education Program, including MDOT MVA-required administrative functions, classroom instruction, and behind-the-wheel training conducted virtually and at designated campus locations. As part of the Driver Education team, this role prepares students for safe vehicle operation and risk management in accordance with the Maryland Graduated Licensing System, the Maryland Standardized Curriculum, and Maryland laws. Additionally, the position supports the Basic Rider Course (BRC) by completing administrative functions required by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and MDOT MVA, collaborating with certified instructors on scheduling, course implementation, and motorcycle fleet maintenance.

The hiring salary for this position will be from the min to mid-point of the salary range advertisedThis position is open until filled.

Examples of duties

Planning, Instruction and Evaluation (40%)
  • Provides leadership in all Driver Education and Motorcycle programs.
  • Assists the Transportation Director with course development using research.
  • Keeps current on local, state, and national trends impacting course development.
  • Instructs classroom/virtual sessions per Maryland Standardized Curriculum.
  • Instructs/delivers behind-the-wheel sessions using certified vehicles.
  • Conducts additional driving sessions to meet curriculum objectives.
  • Schedules and/or conducts MVA trips, extra 6-hour sessions, and make-up sessions.
  • Conducts Driver Education orientations and ensures proper delivery.
  • Demonstrate equipment operations to first-time drivers.
  • Evaluates student progress and decides readiness for skill performance.
  • Ensure smooth transition between classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction.
  • Conducts oral testing and retesting as needed.
  • Reviews and customizes all behind-the-wheel master schedules.
  • Reviews student attendance and proactively reports critical absences.
  • Maintains knowledge of all state and federal laws impacting driver education.
  • Utilizes technology to complete instructional and administrative tasks.
Administration and Compliance (30%)
  • Maintains all required student files, test results, and documentation.
  • Follows FERPA, COMAR, and MVA guidelines when securing student information.
  • Completes/maintains all required MVA paperwork; enters students into the MVA database.
  • Coordinates, reviews, and submits official MVA completions within the 24-hour COMAR requirement; maintains and verifies the master spreadsheet.
  • Enters all student grades and completions into Lumens.
  • Monitors and maintains student grade and attendance reports.
  • Handles rescheduling needs, MVA trip requests, and extra driving sessions, delegates to schedulers when necessary.
  • Monitors college inclement weather and communicates cancellations/rescheduling to students/instructors.
  • Responds to urgent issues from instructors; notifies Direct
