SPACE SYSTEMS

Rocket Lab’s Space Systems team is responsible for every satellite and satellite component made by Rocket Lab: from complete satellites destined for missions to the Moon and Mars, to the individual components and subsystems that make up a satellite like solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels and star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more. Our Space Systems team is made up of engineers, technicians, and designers who design, create, and put together our own satellites for missions across the commercial, government, and defense sectors, or who build and assemble satellite hardware and software that supports other satellite missions.

AEROSPACE PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN II

Planetary Systems Corporation by Rocket Lab (PSC) is a manufacturer of aerospace and satellite mechanisms, including separation systems, on-orbit devices, and other electro-mechanical deployables.

We’re seeking an Aerospace Production Technician II who’s responsible for assembling spaceflight mechanisms. You will support the Senior Engineering Manager and Space Systems organization.

This role sits onsite at Rocket Lab’s PSC site in Silver Spring, Maryland – remote work is not considered.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Precisely assemble mechanical and electrical space flight mechanisms following written production drawings and procedures
  • Operate mechanical, electrical, and automated test equipment
  • Complete assembly procedures and documentation aligning withRocket Lab standards
  • Solder space flight harnesses per the J-STD
  • Generate innovative ideas for process improvements

YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma
  • 5+ years of work experience
  • Understanding of basic electronic circuitry
  • Capability to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control laws

THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:

  • J-STD001-FS certification
  • Strong technical capability and mechanical inclination
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as autonomously
  • Experience with common aerospace assembly tools, e.g. torque wrenches, force gages, load cells, scales, etc.
  • Experience with common aerospace inspection tools, e.g. calipers, multimeters, micrometers, gages, comparators, etc. 
  • Integrity and focus to follow and execute manufacturing instructions and drawings
  • Attention to detail necessary to verify components and assemblies meet required specifications
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities
  • Self-motivated
  • Attention to detail

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. (23 kg) from floor to tabletop 
  • Ability to install and torque fasteners up to 200 in lbs.
  • Standing up to 8 hours/day
