Job Description
OPEN TO PERMANENT EXTERMINATORS **
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance and enforcement. With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, child care, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control.
The Division of Environmental Health seeks an Exterminator L-II for its Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Inspect premises and investigate complaints of infestation. Determines the appropriate method of extermination and/or pest prevention (e.g., stoppage efforts; refuse management) to be used.
Supervise and/or properly bait areas according to protocol, May be required to perform stoppage duties using Borrow Rx Machine
Make assignments to any exterminators engaged in preparing and using traps, rodenticides, stoppage equipment, etc. supervise and assist with the cleaning and repair of equipment.
Assist with Ordering necessary supplies and equipment and ensure the safe storage and cautious use of the various poisons employed in exterminating operations.
Supervise the preparation of the various substances used in exterminating. Make recommendations for improving exterminating methods. Keep records of exterminating operations and makes reports thereof.
Coordinate follow-up with DOHMH exterminator when treatment/stoppage is necessary.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Candidate should be highly organized, with the ability to work well in teams, should possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Experience working with computer would be a plus.
