Job Summary:

The Academic Coordinator plays a vital leadership role in the Inclusive Higher Education Services (IHES) program at MSU Denver, supporting students with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they pursue inclusive college experiences. This individual will coordinate academic programming, manage intern and Student Support Coordinator supervision, and facilitate student recruitment, onboarding, and instructional delivery to ensure the success of our students in academic, social, career, and adult living domains.

Responsibilities:

Student Recruitment & Outreach

  • Coordinate outreach with high school teachers, counselors, and prospective parents
  • Host informational sessions, publish emails and newsletters, and represent IHES at events
  • Monitor IHES email, respond to inquiries, and maintain communication records
  • Review student applications, conduct interviews, and assist with admissions decisions

Student Onboarding & Transition

  • Guide students through MSU Denver applications, registration, and onboarding
  • Collaborate with the Access Center for accommodations
  • Support the implementation of Opening Bootcamp and creation of student schedules

Academic Planning & Recordkeeping

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop Individualized Academic Plans (IAP)
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) documentation in Academics, Independent Living, Social/Community, and Employment domains
  • Compile and maintain academic and programmatic records
  • Collaborate with campus department leads and ISS students to develop major areas of emphasis in their course of study
  • Collaborate with IHES Director, C2Hub, and Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to plan individualized academic, social, adult/community, and pre-employment work experiences and internships leading to competitive integrated employment

Mentorship & Supervision

  • Oversee and evaluate the Student Support Coordinator
  • Supervise mentors and field placements (in collaboration with the School of Education)
  • Facilitate mentor training and ongoing support
  • Assist in mentor hiring and onboarding

Instruction & Program Support

  • Teach IHES courses as needed
  • Collaborate with IHES Director to create IHES courses and guide them through the MSU Denver curriculum adoption process
  • Plan and coordinate the IHES Summer Program in addition to IHES orientation Bootcamp and Concurrent Enrollment program
  • Lead the design and delivery of Bootcamp

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other diverse learners
  • Experience teaching/instructing in an educational setting and/or providing professional development in the field of inclusion or inclusive support services, including experience with academic modifications, accommodations, and/or transition services.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Previous leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Education, or related discipline
  • Experience with inclusive higher education programming
  • Supervisory experience leading staff, mentors, or educators
  • Familiarity with accessibility services and individualized academic planning in a college setting

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. 

The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $45,300 - $56,600 (0.8FTE $36,200 - $45,300). The full salary range is $45,300 - $68,000
