Associate AI & Analytics Engineer
NextEra EnergyAbout the role
NextEra Analytics offers energy consulting services using industry-leading scientific analysis for planning, siting, forecasting and optimizing all forms of energy projects. Our optimization and analytics platforms integrate open-source technologies to leverage massive, diverse sets of utility operating data. This enables rapid development of operational solutions. Applying expertise in advanced mathematics, data and physical sciences, we solve some of the hardest problems facing the energy industry.
Position Specific Description
We are seeking highly capable individuals who want to combine a passion for artificial intelligence, data engineering, and applied analytics with the opportunity to advance innovation in clean energy.
The ideal candidate brings strong academic credentials, an engineering mindset, and a demonstrated history of being a self-starter—whether through open-source contributions, independent projects, entrepreneurial endeavors, or new initiatives within an organization.
This role reports directly to the Sr. Director of AI & Analytics for NextEra Analytics and will contribute to designing, developing, and deploying AI and analytics solutions that help NextEra remain the most innovative and successful renewable energy company in the world.
A successful candidate thrives in a fluid, entrepreneurial, and high-velocity environment focused on building reusable, scalable software applications, not one-off analytical models. We look for engineers and problem solvers with demonstrated excellence and intellectual curiosity.
Our team is committed to growing meaningful careers. You will work on a wide range of AI/ML, data engineering, and analytics initiatives alongside some of the most creative minds in the energy industry.
Preferred Qualifications and Technologies:
- Experience with modern statistical, machine learning, and AI approaches (classification, regression, feature engineering, optimization, deep learning, and foundation models)
- Programming skills enabling end-to-end engineering work (Python required; SQL, Scala, and a plus)
- Experience with large datasets and distributed computing technologies (Spark, Hive/Hadoop, Ray, or cloud-native equivalents)
- Experience with contemporary AI frameworks, including both traditional ML and Generative AI (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Spark MLlib, Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LlamaIndex, DSPy)
- Familiarity with LLMOps and AI system development (prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluation frameworks, vector databases)
- Experience working with agentic or autonomous AI frameworks and multi-agent orchestration (e.g., LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar tools)
- Knowledge of statistical techniques, experimental design, and model evaluation methodologies
- Ability to present information and insights using modern visualization techniques and tools (e.g., Plotly, Power BI, Tableau)
Core Responsibilities
- Develop AI, machine learning, and analytical solutions tailored to high-value business challenges.
- Build pipelines to gather, process, and validate large datasets across distributed environments.
- Implement and maintain scalable data and model pipelines using modern engineering practices.
- Optimize model and application performance, monitor accuracy, and build tools for observability.
- Extend company data by integrating third-party or external data sources when appropriate.
- Conduct ad-hoc analyses and communicate insights to key decision-makers.
- Participate in full-stack model deployment, from prototyping to productionized services.
- Support the development of reusable internal platforms and AI/ML tooling.
