Job Description:

Summary:  

The Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) is looking for students to serve as Inclusive Excellence Ambassadors (IE Ambassadors), with a specific focus on education and learning advocacy, for the 2025-2026 academic year. Learning Advocates will be trained in inclusive teaching and intergroup dialogue practices to help foster campus-wide engagement with critical themes such as identity, culture, equity, and access.  

  

Learning Advocates will serve as peer educators who help shape, support, and deliver the educational content behind OIE’s core initiatives. From facilitating discussions in Dialogue Across Differences workshops to curating content for the Inclusive Excellence Learning Series. Learning Advocates will help make complex conversations more accessible and meaningful for their peers.   

  

This is an excellent opportunity for students passionate about education, dialogue, and creating inclusive learning spaces on campus. 

Essential Functions:

1.) Professional Growth Opportunities:

  • Develop knowledge in inclusive excellence principles and practices in higher education.

  • Refine skills in public speaking, professional networking, inclusive leadership, and collaboration.

  • Network with OIE staff, AU faculty and staff, campus partners, and external partners.

  • Gain experience in social media marketing, content creation, and event planning through mentorship by full-time OIE staff and advisory councils. 

2.) Educational Content & Facilitation:

  • Attend and assist with campus-wide OIE events, receptions, and other in-person or virtual programs.

  • Provide event set-up and presenter support (e.g., managing panelists in Zoom webinars or venue set-up for the IE Summit).

  • Support event check-in and attendance tracking.

  • Assist at OIE events for approximately 1 to 3 hours per event, 5-8 times per semester.

  • Attend weekly IE Ambassador team meetings/training throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • Student.

  • FWS.

  • 3 - 5 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $17.95 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Less than 1 year of relevant experience.

  • Must be a currently enrolled American University student (undergraduate or graduate).

  • Strong work ethic, interest in culturally responsive practices, and effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

  • Willingness to ask for assistance and openness to constructive feedback.

  • Flexibility to adapt to team needs in dynamic situations.

  • Passion for advancing inclusive excellence at AU.
