Job Description
AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Chicago, IL November 20th & 21st. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026.
The event kicks off on Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.
On Friday, interviews will take place at our Chicago office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOM is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern to be based in our Chicago, IL office. This internship will support transportation projects and teams.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Supports planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
- Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps on topics, such as census information, land use, roadway network, crash records, and asset inventories.
- Works with the planning team to conduct equitable public outreach, preparing materials and presentations
- Analyzes data and prepares detailed maps for use on thematic maps and in reports.
- Conducts concept-level evaluation of transit/transportation improvement options.
- Documents and presents findings on transit/transportation planning projects.
- Researches current transportation-related topics at local, State, and Federal levels.
- Assists with other duties assigned by senior staff and/or Project Managers.
- This position will involve planning and project development activities for transportation projects under the supervision of more senior staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, geography, public policy, or a related field and must have completed at least one year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of first year of qualified study.
- Demonstrated interest in multi-modal transportation planning and analysis, including analyzing and recommending solutions for urban transportation issues
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, research and data collection
- Analytical skills to interpret research data for reports and apply statistical techniques in practical situations
- Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain planning concepts clearly to clients and the public
- Presentation skills to synthesize data and research into compelling reports and graphics
- Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment, including an ability to prioritize and meet task deadlines
- Strong command of the written and spoken English language
