TITLE: General Maintenance Person
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate
- Has two years of building and mechanical maintenance or operations experience
- Has a valid driver's license
- Has the ability to read and follow written directions
- Has the physical ability to perform heavy physical labor
- Has the ability to lift and move objects weighing at least 75 pounds numerous times per day
- Exhibits personal habits in keeping with the assigned responsibilities
- Demonstrates aptitude or competence in general carpentry, electrical and plumbing with work experience in one or more of these areas
- Has demonstrated the ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and area contractors
REPORTS TO: Buildings and Grounds Foreman/Director of Facility Management
JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, develop and to provide staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place to teach, and to help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be familiar with and follow written policies procedures, work orders and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilities
- Examine school buildings and equipment on a regular basis for needed repair and maintenance
- Make needed repairs of buildings and equipment as needed and skills permit
- Develop a systematic plan for supervising and/or changing filters and lubricating equipment
- Is responsible for the everyday maintenance of vehicles and equipment used
- Report conditions needing expertise beyond his/her skills to the Manager Buildings and Grounds
- Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of flooring, door frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware, and similar structural elements in the facilities owned and operated by the District
- Determine which repair jobs may be performed by carpenters, custodians and service personnel on the staff, and which may be performed by outside contractors, and advises the Manager Buildings and Grounds accordingly
- Maintain an inventory of frequently used parts, materials, and equipment in their assigned vehicles
- Secure a purchase order for all authorized purchases
- Work cooperatively with a crew of workers as is deemed necessary by the Manager Buildings and Grounds
- See that tools and equipment are stored properly, clean and in good repair, ready for next use
- Maintain necessary records and prepares periodic reports
- Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
NOTE:
- If assigned Local Education Agencies (LEA) asbestos responsibilities, a salary supplement of .25 cents per hour will be added for hours worked plus $1000 stipend

- Hourly (Grade 21)
- 8 per day
- 40 per wk.
- 260 days
- 12 months
