About the Role
The Service Technical Writer will produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products. You will collaborate with developers, quality engineers, product managers, and usability experts to make our products easier to understand and use. This role will be responsible for creating, distributing, and managing internal and external product documentation including user manuals, troubleshooting procedures, knowledge-base resources, service bulletins, and requirements specifications.
Responsibilities Include:
- Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements
- Create and maintain the information architecture and documentation standards
- Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
- Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help, and developer guides
- Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
- Review material prepared by others for submission to the existing knowledge base.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of distribution
- Select or create photographs, drawings, videos, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material
- Study drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
- Become a product expert and document that knowledge effectively for internal and external audiences
- Manage knowledge base: creating, modifying, and organizing knowledge base articles for internal and external audiences
Required Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in technical writing, including all aspects of creating, editing, and publishing collateral
- 1-2 years of experience in a role in the Industrial Automation industry.
- Proven work experience in technical writing and software documentation
- Proven ability to distill complex technical concepts into easy-to-understand content
- Ability to perform as both a strong team player and independently on specific projects
- Proofreading and editing skills, and an aptitude for detail-oriented work requiring a high degree of accuracy
- Proficient in Google Suite office applications and documentation authoring tools
- Must have excellent communication and listening skills
Desirable Qualifications:
- Associates degree in applied sciences or a related field
- Proficient in Adobe FrameMaker.
- Ability to develop illustrated parts catalog from engineering drawings, blueprints, manufacturing, bills of material, and supplier data.
- Ability to create line art to illustrate parts and assemblies for use in technical manuals, parts catalogs and other related publications.
- Able to develop isometric technical illustrations from scratch using basic technical illustration principles.
- Experienced in interpreting blueprints, detailed engineering specifications, and schematics (electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic).
