Position Specific Description
NextEra is seeking to hire a Sr Accountant to perform accounting due diligence and research functions for NextEra Energy commodity and commodity-related business activities with a focus on derivative, lease, revenue recognition, consolidation (VIE) and fair value issues surrounding structured commodity contracts.
In this position, employees will take a lead role in conducting accounting due diligence for structured commodity contracts. This encompasses a thorough examination of structured commodity contracts, in-depth accounting analysis, policy research, and a comprehensive understanding of the commercial aspects of assigned transactions. Successful team members will develop the essential technical accounting, commercial, and professional skills through hands-on training with subject matter experts. They will also collaborate closely with experienced leaders from business units across the company, such as energy marketing and trading, market risk, renewables development, business management, project valuation, legal, and more.
• Perform accounting review and due diligence for assigned contracts and prepare supporting documentation
• Develop and maintain expert knowledge of derivative, lease, revenue recognition and fair value guidance and related GAAP such as consolidation (VIEs), etc.
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive commercial understanding of assigned transactions, products, and markets
• Implement NextEra’s existing accounting policies and draft new policies as needed
• Determine the appropriate derivative, lease, and revenue accounting conclusions for assigned contracts
• Prepare and maintain written documentation of these contracts, including positions papers and standard documentation
• Respond to transaction review requests and manage the deal review process with commercial personnel
• Identify and analyze key provisions in contracts to reach appropriate accounting conclusions
• Resolve complex accounting issues related to assigned transactions
• Articulate positions taken on these issues to team leader and commercial personnel
• Maintain strong working relationships with front office personnel, attorneys, internal accounting personnel and internal and external auditors
• Manage multiple tasks and projects
• Work with internal and external auditors
• Perform additional due diligence and research projects, as assigned

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Prepares financial reports that are in compliance with GAAP, in a timely manner, to accurately reflect the financial status of the company
