The Production Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager and is accountable for safety, 5S/housekeeping, quality, on-time delivery, productivity, material handling, cost performance, capital improvements, budget preparation support, employee hiring and development, and overall morale of a high-performance work team environment. This position requires monitoring all production related KPI’s to ensure planned performance execution and implementing the standard work processes necessary to improve results in all key functional areas. The production manager will understand and demonstrate Servant Leadership by listening to and involving his/her associates in the implementation of Lean methodology to drive sustained excellence in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and talent. The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining World Class level machine building manufacturing practices, people and machine capabilities to meet demand, and regulatory compliance for all production activities. Responsible for the steel room, fabrication, machine shop, paint, and assembly operations.
What you'll be doing:
- Ensure the safety of all employees by leading the execution of a comprehensive safety program to prevent injuries. Facilitate a plant Safety Committee with an hourly majority that owns and drives actions to resolve safety concerns as well as assisting with the completion of all safety program tasks and initiatives. Comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.).
- Develop subordinates through timely annual reviews, on the job real time feedback, education, and training. The production manager is responsible for making sure that the plant has the right skillsets to fabricate, machine, and assemble in a manner that supports efficient, high quality, and on-time delivery of the machines and manufactured spare parts. Provides regular scorecard feedback to all associates monthly.
- Responsible for the administration of all apprenticeship programs and activities.
- Employs a Servant Leadership style that creates an environment of respect and accountability while demonstrating management’s willingness to listen to his/her associates to provide our team the tools and procedures that enable success.
- Proactively communicates opportunities and obstacles to the plant manager while also providing mitigating strategies to drive machine shop and assembly excellence.
- Coordinates directly with the C.I. Manager to create and implement procedures that improve efficiencies without compromising product safety or integrity. Lead plant operations in continuous improvement initiatives, such as 5S, Kaizen events, and Lean manufacturing. Meet or exceed plant productivity, cost, or other performance metric expectations as outlined by the annual strategic plan.
- Create work schedules for associates to ensure optimum staffing levels to meet demand while controlling overtime costs.
- Assists in preparation of annual plant operating budget and strategic plan including capital needs in a 5 year planning format. Becomes familiar with the latest machine shop technology and proposed capital strategies that will keep us competitive within the machining and assembly markets.
