JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of a licensed nurse, the NAC performs a variety of direct patient care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the age related personal needs and comforts of patients/residents. Much of the basic day-to-day care of the patient/resident – bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and transferring - is delegated to the NAC. NAC activities are crucial to helping patients/residents attain and/or maintain their highest level of functioning..
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Takes accurate vital signs.
- Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
- Positions patient in bed with proper body alignment.
- Assists patient with ambulation as necessary.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Identifies and communicates findings to the Manager or Nurse Oversight.
- Note condition of skin, check for pressure ulcers.
- Recognize, respond, report resident emotional, social, cultural and mental health needs.
- Works as part of the interdisciplinary team.
- Provides care which protects resident from abuse, mistreatment or neglect and reports instances (real and/or suspected) to appropriate staff and agency.
- Perform other related tasks/duties as may be requested or assigned for the effectiveness and efficient function of Ferry County Health.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.
- Checks hospital email a minimum of once per shift.
- Completes all mandatory education within given time frame.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Attends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.
- Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies, and employee handbook.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.
- All Ferry County Health employees are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy, state and federal regulations, including not but limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Current NAC or CNA license in Washington State.
- Current CPR and First Aid card.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, patients, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical solutions.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
