Position Overview 

Align offers a wide variety of services centered around the data center white space.  We are a white space fit-out general contractor who manages the entire fit-out of data centers across the country. We’re looking for motivated individuals eager to break into the data center industry as White Space Fit-Out Project Managers. This is a great opportunity to launch a career in a fast-growing, high-impact field. Our services include designing layouts, overhead support systems (to support cable pathways and electrical systems), power striping/redundancy planning for distribution from PDUs to cabinet receptacles, conduit pathways, and low voltage structured cable infrastructure.   

This is an ideal career opportunity for Data Center Technicians, Data Cabling Project Managers, or construction management professionals who are eager to advance their careers in data center white space buildouts. As a Data Center Project Associate, you will assist our Senior Project Managers with guiding the build of electrical and mechanical distribution from the upstream critical equipment to deliver power to compute, storage, and network infrastructures. You will be onsite daily, interacting with the construction trades/subcontractors, and will be directly responsible for managing schedule and quality control (QC) in the field.

• This position is based in the Northern Virginia area and primarily supports local projects. However, candidates should be open to travel outside the region, depending on project needs. 

Responsibilities

The Data Center Project Associate will be responsible for assisting our Senior Project Managers to manage and oversee construction-related activities. Some of the typical daily tasks of the Data Center Project Associate include:   

• Interface with construction general contractors during the bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch-list phases as directed by the Sr. Project Manager.
• Monitor the progress of each project through:
  • Updating schedules
  • Communicating changes  
  • Manage client expectations - identify and negotiate time extensions where justified and allowed  
  • Resolve scope problems with subcontractors
• Assist the Senior Project Manager with construction document management, including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.
• Perform construction project quality control.
• Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
• Drive teams to perform troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis associated with equipment failures. 

Required Qualifications 

• 2+ years of experience in any of the following areas, and a passion for growing a career in data center whitespace fit-out project management:
  • Data Center technician or Data Center Operations  
  • Low-voltage installation project coordination  
  • Construction management environment. The ideal candidate would have exposure to mission-critical projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants.
• Any general contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI/submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution is preferr
