Job Description
Our Senior Research Specialists provide targeted research to all divisions of the NBC News Group, including TODAY, Nightly News, Dateline, MSNBC, our digital/streaming properties, and the network news desk and bureaus.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted deadline research to news reporters, writers, producers, and executives using expert skills and comprehensive knowledge of online and print resources
- Create fact sheets, timelines, and subject research guides for topics in the news for distribution and/or posting to our InfoCenter Intranet pages
- Other specialized projects as needed, including working with archived materials
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Have a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or related field
- Have at least five years of prior research experience in a corporate environment
- Have expertise in locating, vetting, and curating a wide array of information into concise and digestible research packages for end-users
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a fast learner who is detail-oriented and well-organized and will have:
- Prior research experience in a news organization
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure as researchers consistently work against deadlines, and often in breaking news situations
- Strong written and communication skills
- Knowledge of a broad array of information resources across many subjects
- Strong interest in news, current events, and pop culture
- Experience using social media
- Excellent interpersonal skills
PLEASE NOTE: This is a short term position with an estimated duration of 24 months or less, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.
What we’ll offer: Production Employee (PEP) Regular who works more than 1,000 hours per measurement period:
- Eligible for 401K after 1,000 hours worked in 12 consecutive months
