What You'll Do:
Camp Unit Leaders are responsible for the overall safety and supervision of campers, including their successful engagement in all aspects of the New Orleans JCC Summer Camp experience, including trips, programs, and aquatics. Camp Unit Leaders serve camp primarily by taking on a senior leadership role in their camp group as head teachers through mentorship of co-counselors, implementing behavior management strategies, communicating with families, and ensuring the safety and security of all campers. Camp Unit Leaders have additional responsibilities related to the programming and logistics for their camp unit as a whole.
Head Teachers report directly to the Assistant Camp Director.
Camp Unit Leaders will primarily serve as additional support for programming, camp groups, and communication responsibilities for their camp unit.
Camp Unit Leaders-Specific Responsibilities
- Provide support to staff during camp day (in the form of supervision and leadership development)
- Work with the Youth and Camp Coordinator to provide ample enrichment opportunities to groups during downtime
- Assist camp director in communication with counselors and parents throughout the day as needed
- Assist in daily reporting
- Sabra - Taglit: Coordinate field trip permission forms
Camper Supervision & Safety
- Along with your co-counselor(s), supervise 15-25 campers during all camp activities (Including campers with special needs)
- Be familiar with and enforce the personnel policies staff rules, and program of the camp.
- Assist the Head Counselor (co-counselor) in keeping records as required, including documenting all incidents and behavioral issues.
- Ensure all campers' health, safety, and welfare in any area or program at camp.
- Model appropriate behavior to campers including on the bus to and from camp.
- Assist the Head Teacher (co-counselor) in using positive behavior-management techniques with campers.
- Perform any other program or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by
Camper Experience & Camp-Day Efficiency
- Work with your co-counselor to provide the highest level of support and programming for your campers.
- Participate actively in all camp activities (including swim programming)
- Lead and/or assist in small and large group activities within your group
- Participate in camp-wide activities and programming (including performances, dress-up days, and whole-camp programs)
- Assist actively during camper arrival, dismissal, and lunch

Qualifications
What You'll Bring:
Head Teacher Candidates
- Be 20 years of age or older with HS Degree or Equivalent
- Teacher Experience/ Significant childcare experience preferred
