QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Ability to follow directions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Minimum one year industrial cooking experience
- Must have a valid Arizona driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to satisfactorily complete The Salvation Army Fleet Safety program
- Must have a valid food handler’s certificate & be able to obtain a Yavapai County Health Department Kitchen Manager’s certificate within 120 days of being hired
- General working knowledge of The Salvation Army (TSA) policies & procedures preferred
- Must have a working knowledge of available community resources
- Able to supervise, train, & work with assigned volunteers
- Maintain a pleasant demeanor around clients, staff, & volunteers at all times
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, with ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
- Able to maintain a non-judgement attitude, professional approach and maintain boundaries with clients & staff
- Able to handle crisis/emergency services for the homeless and to utilize crisis intervention, crowd management and conflict resolution skills if necessary
- Must pass a criminal background check.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan menus offering healthy & balanced meals to clients while efficiently utilizing donated food
- Coordinates food pick ups from donors
- Responsible for preparing and serving meals at assigned meal times which may require flexibility on holiday scheduling
- Preparing meals for Corps programs, EDS, & special events while ensuring the food is of good quality, is presented well, & meets health standards
- Maintain a current inventory of groceries & kitchen supplies. Order needed items on a bi-weekly basis to keep supplies at sufficient levels
- Coordinate, schedule, and work with volunteers for kitchen, pantry, & dining room activities
- Liaise with the Social Services Director to make sure a proper amount of food boxes and donated foods for the food bank are available
- Report immediately all accidents or any other property damage to supervisor and fill out all required forms
- Keep the work area neat & clean to prevent the possibility of fire, injury, or sickness
- Keep the pantry, refrigerators & freezers clean, organized, and food rotated to ensure efficient utilization of donated foods on a weekly basis
- Available as needed to pick up donations from local groceries stores
- Coordinates annual recognition of volunteers with Corps Officer
- Ensure that all towels and other items used by clients are washed, dried using the kitchen laundry & folded as needed or directed
- Ensure that the kitchen & dining areas are cleaned immediately after breakfast and throughout the day as needed
- Adhere to all appropriate health codes. Meet The Salvation Army standards of kitchen storage, cleanliness, food preparation, & quality, presentation of food & other applicable kitchen/cooking standards
- All invoices are given to the Supervisor within 24 hours to ensure timely payment
- All kitchen related appliances are kept clean and maintained properly as scheduled
- Test sanitizer bucket with test strip every 4 hours
- Log all required equipment and food temperatures daily.
- Pantry shelves are kept clean, stock properly rotated, and the floor swept and mopped daily.
- Must be willing to support the mission of The Salvation Army
- Ensure self, staff, & volunteers comply with all policies & procedures of The Salvation Army including Protect The Mission standards
- Other duties to include filling in with the social service department as needed, seasonal activities, & other tasks as assigned by the Corps Officer as they relate to the position of Cook/Kitchen Coordinator.
