The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry seeks an experienced Laboratory Research Operations Analyst in the field of Scientific Glass Technology to provide technical expertise in a research, development, or scientific program. The Laboratory Research Operations Analyst will apply their industry knowledge and understanding of the scientific glassblowing technology concepts, principles and technical capabilities to develop, modify, adapt, and design equipment to create unique systems in support of research, development, or instruction, involving, but not limited to, the disciplines of electronics, mechanical/thermal systems, optics, and/or computers.

Relying on their unique knowledge base the Laboratory Research Operations Analyst will work collaboratively with various groups within the department to provide guidance in the field of scientific glass technology to facilitate project planning and coordination. Must develop a basic understanding of department fiscal processes to facilitate the billing processes. Designs and fabricates custom and specialty borosilicate and quartz instruments, which may involve working from blue prints, sketches, or customer design ideas without detailed drawings, requiring substantial artistic and technical creativity; fabricates, modifies, and repairs experimental and laboratory apparatus on-site, in lab, or for other departments on campus as required; consults with scientific and engineering personnel to provide guidance on the development capabilities of the glassblowing department as they design and develop instruments to be used on complex projects of various size and scope; manages fee-based earnings operation and provides budget and budget reports as required; maintains inventory control; provides general customer service; performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or department chair.

Qualifications:
 

Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a fully equipped glass laboratory with 4 years of relevant experience. Relying on their unique knowledge base working collaboratively with various groups within the department.

Desired: Associate in applied science degree with Scientific Glass Technology specialization or apprenticeship in glassblowing facility with training provided by a skilled glassblower and at least 4 years of related experience.  Experience with operating a variety of related equipment; absolute understanding of safety protocols as related to the use of pressurized gasses and open flames and related hazards; ability to interpret blueprints, line drawings and sketches; supervisory skills; management of business operations highly desired.

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $64,300 to $84,550 annually. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
