About the role

Position summary:

The Surgical Technology Instructor/Clinical Coordinator will provide expertise in surgical technology curricular knowledge. The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Individuals should be experienced in the use of diverse up-to-date s equipment and instrumentation. Individuals should be self-directed, compassionate, and patient, and exhibit superior communication skills. The instructional staff must be responsible for providing didactic content, evaluating students, reporting progress, and for the periodic review and updating of course material.

Position responsibilities:

  • Maintain program specific policies for the program that meet accreditation standards
  • Demonstrate excellence in instruction, and evaluate students as needed
  • Assist in recruitment, advisement and registration of students
  • Prepare course schedules each semester and update syllabi annually; Coordinate syllabi, course content, and collect IE data for all department courses. Assist in the adoption of textbooks each semester to be approved by Dean
  • Manage classrooms, labs, and facilities to ensure students' learning needs are met
  • Promote the programs through participation in area and community events as well as press releases
  • Develop the curriculum and continue curriculum revisions of the programs so student training and skill development meets employer need
  • Actively participate in related consortia, partnerships, organizations, etc.
  • Support the philosophy and mission of the College
  • Administers daily operations to include policy adherence and regulatory compliance to CAAHEP rules and regulations
  • Resolves student issues/complaints
  • Ability to promote an effective environment for learning in lecture and lab experiences.
  • Ability to teach students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • CAAHEP rules and regulations
  • Surgical Technologist curriculum, implementation, revision and evaluation
  • Applicable computer programs and equipment
  • Public relations principles and practices
  • Regulatory issues pertaining to program
  • Monitoring and evaluating students
  • Prioritizing work and performing multiple tasks
  • Using computers and software application programs
  • Designing curriculum and course offerings
  • Facilitating effective group interactions
  • Solving problems
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Surgical Technology curriculum development, implementation, revision, and evaluation preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
