This position can be home based, with a preference for Tampa or Orlando, FL or Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities

This individual will be responsible for an exciting established portfolio of high-touch projects for top organizational wide donors, in support of the outright and deferred revenue goals of the department. Examples of the established portfolio include donor stewardship magazine and newsletters, leading and developing a pipeline for compelling and inspiring storytelling in targeted emails and mail pieces for members of the Association’s esteemed Giving Societies, scripting for executive leadership and production support for national donor events, communications to drive engagement and membership for the Association’s Professional Advisor Network, and supporting development of communication tools and resources for use by a variety of Association staff and teams.

  • Plan, research/prepare for, write, edit, and curate content, including, but not limited to copy for newsletters, the American Heart Association annual report, targeted emails (including series of content for email journeys), publications, web, social media, scripting, talking points/conversation guides, toolkits, templates for donation acknowledgement, stewardship reporting and other purposes as needed.  Conduct interviews with donors, volunteers and others to reach content objectives.  Review content submissions by guest authors and edit as needed for clarity and criteria.  Work cross-functionally with various teams to research, write, craft and share community impact and funding opportunity success stories.
  • Lead project and publication production implementation, including time and schedule management, with accountability for deadlines.  Collaborate with partners and deliver a top-quality final product within assignments and areas of responsibility. 
  • Provide video editing, presentation slide development, and other production support.  Maintain detailed electronic records for all communication related projects, including authorizations, recordings, and photography.
  • Actively commit to learning and successfully representing the priorities, initiatives, programs, funding vehicles and other aspects of the American Heart Association, to ensure relevance and timeliness of content.  Contribute to the objectives and goals of the Marketing and Communications team, Operations Division, and Mission Advancement Department.  Deliver on special projects as they arise.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Five (5) – Eight (8) years of validated experience
  • Experience in a communications, marketing, or public relations role, with a national scope preferred.
  • Experience leading communications, project management, and editorial planning.
  • Experience working with volunteers and donors.
  • Highly organized, with demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, multi-task, and set priorities.
  • Strong writer with excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to a variety of mediums.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to think critically and with context.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Solid computer skills with the capability to master new software applications and technologies. Excellent Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint skills required. 
  • Ability to engage all major, principal, and planned donor types, and to collaborate with partners across departments and/or teams.
