Technician Assistant, Animal LaboratoryJob Description Summary
PGMF Core is located at Hill Pavillion. Will be in charge of feeding and maintaining the mice in the proper germ-free environment. Clean and maintain the isolators, including the assembling of the new bubbles and cleaning, dissembling after the experiments. Good organizational and time management skills is needed, specially good attention on the detail. Must be comfortable working with mice. Must be willing to work on weekends if necessary. Primary responsibilities include assisting in the care of germfree mice, transferring the mice to the regular cages and to the iso-cages (ABSL-2) room for theexperiments. Also cleaning, setting and autoclaving the new iso-cages for the experiments. Transport of germ-free equipment, maintaining cleanliness of animal rooms, equipment maintenance, handling the animals for various procedures, collecting tissue for genotyping. Must be responsible for the ordering of food, bedding and other items for the Core needs.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
- Ordering of food/bedding and other supplies from approved vendors via Penn Market Place
- Transport of germ-free equipment, including the cylinders transportation for autoclaving
- Taking care of germ-free mice, feeding and maintaining them proper in germ-free environment
- Receive and house animals
- Equipment maintenance, including the ABSL-2 room occupied with iso-cages. Cleaning, washing, assembling, loading and autoclaving the iso-cages
- Maintaining cleanliness of animal rooms and isolators
- Handling of animals for various procedures, tissue collection
- Additional duties as assigned.
