Job Duties

The Information Security Officer will serve as a key advisor across the enterprise, including identifying key corporate security initiatives and standards.

Develops and manages the agency’s Information Security Program to ensure compliance with state and federal IT security requirements, including COV’s Standard SEC501, Information Technology Hosted Environment Information Security Standard (COV ITRM Standard SEC525), NIST 800-53, Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems; and IRS 1075. Verify IT systems and data are classified for sensitivity; develop and maintain an information security awareness training program; implement and maintain the appropriate balance of preventative, detective and corrective controls for agency IT systems commensurate with data sensitivity, risk and systems criticality; mitigate and report IT security incidents; ensure user system access is monitored, reviewed and appropriate; ensure business impact analysis, system risk assessments, disaster recovery plans and system security plans are completed, implemented, and reviewed; review policies, procedures, processes and controls.

Recommend process improvements to enhance performance and serve as a liaison with VITA’s Chief ISO. Ensures that the agency’s information security program is (1) sufficient to protect the agency’s IT systems and (2) documented and effectively communicated.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of information systems security requirements, policies and procedures; systems security vulnerabilities/ threats/risks controls/mitigations/configuration management/identification and authentication/risk assessment/personnel security/physical environment protection/contingency planning/incident response/system and information integrity.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication, computer, and problem resolution skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage staff, programs and administrative functions; develop and implement an IT security program; develop and implement strategies for mitigating risk; analyze systems and their functionality/relationship to the processing environment; provide technical assistance; conduct training; and make formal presentations.

Additional Considerations

Certification as a CompTIA Security+, Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or Certified Information Security Manager. Experience managing an ISO program.
