Renewable Term Instructor/Lecturer of Management and International Business - Sports Business
University of OklahomaAbout the role
Description
Center for Sports and Entertainment Business | Price College of Business | University of Oklahoma
Division of Management & International Business
Location: Norman, Oklahoma
Anticipated start date: January or August 2027
Position Overview
The Division of Management & International Business at the University of Oklahoma's Price College of Business invites applications for a renewable term faculty position in Sports Business at the rank of Instructor or Lecturer. The position sits within the Undergraduate and Graduate Education programs of the Center for Sports and Entertainment Business — a college-wide initiative built on four pillars: Executive Programs, Undergraduate and Graduate Education, Experiential Programs, and Thought Leadership.
The Price College Sports Business program is, first and foremost, a business program. Our students are business students preparing for careers in the sports industry, and our faculty teach sports business through the core disciplines of business — finance, marketing, strategy, analytics, management, and economics. As a program within an AACSB-accredited college of business, we are distinct from sport management programs housed in other academic units, and we approach the industry with the rigor and a focus on AACSB standards.
We seek an educator who brings a strong background in — or a genuine enthusiasm for — experiential learning, and who embraces mentoring students as a natural part of the teaching role. In our program, experiential learning and student mentorship are woven into the way our faculty teach rather than added on top of it, and the successful candidate will bring both into the classroom and the broader life of the program.
The position offers a competitive salary along with annual support for professional development, travel, and research.
A Distinctive Sports Market
The position is situated within one of the most dynamic sports markets in the country. The Oklahoma City metropolitan area is undergoing significant development, including a new downtown arena for the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder, a multipurpose stadium that will host professional soccer and a United Football League franchise, and — for the first time in the state's history — Olympic competition, as Oklahoma City stages two 2028 Olympic events in partnership with Team OKC. While the position is based at the University of Oklahoma, the surrounding region offers a rich landscape of organizations and events that can serve as the foundation for meaningful experiential learning. As these venues come online and the 2028 Games approach, the successful candidate will help prepare students to pursue the opportunities this growth creates.
Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate courses in a 4/4 format. However, there will be future opportunities to teach graduate courses as well as online courses. We place a high value on experiential learning and expect faculty to bring applied, hands-on approaches — industry-connected projects, site visits, consulting engagements, and undergraduate research — into the courses they teach. Teaching assignments will be shaped around the candidate's academic and professional strengths and the evolving needs of the program, but there will always be opportunities to propose and develop new courses as the program grows.
Mentorship and Student Development
Mentorship is central to how our sports business faculty serve students. Alongside their teaching, the successful candidate will advise and mentor students on their academic progress and career development. They will connect classroom learning to contemporary research and professional practice. They will support students as they pursue experiential learning opportunities like internships, research, consulting projects, site visits, and study abroad experiences. This work reflects the shared commitment our faculty make to student success and shapes the way our courses and programs are designed; it is part of what it means to teach in this program rather than a separate assignment.
