Job Description:

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OPSHL) in Hillsboro, Oregon has a career opportunity for a Microbiologist 2  to serve in the Virology/Immunology Department performing analytical and specialized diagnostic testing activities for infectious diseases and agents of public health interest.

The Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OSPHL) has been actively protecting the public's health since 1903 by supporting state and local infectious disease control efforts, preventing metabolic disorders detectable at birth, and assuring the quality of testing in clinical and environmental laboratories. This is a full-time, limited duration position and is represented by a union. The duration of this position is expected until through June 30, 2026. Limited duration positions are benefit eligible. This recruitment may be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill current or future vacancies.

What will you do?

As the Microbiologist 2, your responsibilities include providing analytical and specialized testing for infectious diseases and agents of public health interest in the Virology/Immunology section of the Public Health Laboratory. Duties associated with the position may include, but are not limited to, clinical laboratory testing, sample processing, quality assurance and quality control activities, inventory management, the creation and updating of procedures, and client relations. This position also supports pandemic and outbreak response testing and sequencing efforts.

This position functions within this program by providing epidemiology staff, county health departments, federal health officials (CDC), and other medical personnel with information necessary for the diagnosis, treatment, and control of a variety of infectious disease states.
