Bennett Thrasher (“BT”) is seeking a State & Local Tax (“SALT”) Staff to help grow our dynamic SALT practice. You will work side-by-side with seasoned CPAs and attorneys on complex, multistate sales/use tax and income- and franchise-tax matters while driving innovative, client-focused solutions.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting with sales/use tax nexus and exposure studies, including jurisdictional footprint analyses and taxability reviews.
  • Building and maintaining income nexus and exposure models in Excel.
  • Supporting SALT tax diligence by analyzing target company data, preparing issue lists, and summarizing key risks and opportunities.
  • Assisting with sales and use tax audits, including data requests, exposure quantification, sampling reviews, and preparation of supporting workpapers.
  • Monitoring legislative, regulatory, and case law developments affecting both state income and sales/use taxes and summarizing impacts for internal and client use.
  • Collaborating with engagement teams and compliance staff to address state-specific income and sales tax issues and provide well-supported, Excel-based analyses and recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree required; degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred; CPA (or CPA-eligible) a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills or a demonstrated willingness and aptitude to learn advanced Excel functionality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality work and outstanding client service.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail.
