About the Faculty of Social Sciences
The FSS comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty's masters and Ph.D. programs. Along with its complement of about 100 administrative employees, the faculty is proud to provide a collaborative working environment that inspires new ideas, encourages creative ingenuity, and promotes excellence.

Position Purpose

The purpose of this position is to develop and grow the faculty’s experiential and work-integrated learning (EL/WIL) portfolio with a particular emphasis on building the community engagement and the community service learning (CE/CSL) components, both inside and outside the classroom, and with a further emphasis on international students and other under-represented student groups.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Strategic & Operational Orientations:

  • Responsible for identifying areas of growth for EL/WIL at the Faculty, with a particular emphasis on CSL/CE, and for developing tailored strategies relating to curricular and co-curricular offerings for different disciplines/portfolios.

  • Works in close collaboration with Faculty members, professors, and management at the Faculty to develop, implement, and scale up EL/WIL initiatives throughout the student journey and across the curriculum. Brings community partners into the classroom to promote the various EL/WIL initiatives directly to the students.

  • Develops a methodical competitive intelligence practice to monitor emerging trends, policy developments, and opportunities relating to EL/WIL and contributes to the development of proposals in response to external funding opportunities to maximize opportunities for the Faculty’s students.

Partnership Development and Maintenance:

  • Collaborates on the identification, design, and execution of partnership development strategies, including research and outreach activities. Develops mutually beneficial partnerships with external partners (whether at the local, national, or international levels) in targeted sectors, with a particular focus on community partners.

  • Gains a thorough understanding of the needs of external partners and helps translate these into EL/WIL opportunities (such as community service learning or extracurricular volunteering) for students.

  • Maintains and grows the portfolio of current external partners by maintaining an internal tracking database/information portal, and by providing prompt and efficient customer service strategies to keep external partners in EL/WIL processes active in the enrolment of uOttawa students.  Ensures necessary oversight and stewardship of these student projects.

Outreach, Networking, and Knowledge Management:

  • Proactively represents the University and the Faculty while attending diverse networking events external to the university and within the community and translates this into potential EL/WIL initiatives for the benefit of students.

  • Contributes to the EL/WIL knowledge transfer strategy at the Faculty/School level, thereby furthering the institutionalization of actions, policies and practices.

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge of business development, account management and partnership development principles norm
