CLASS DEFINITION
A Mechanical Maintenance Technician Supervisor II directs the supervision of mechanical maintenance and repair activities at a water or wastewater treatment plant or pumping station and integrates and coordinates these maintenance functions with those of other related disciplines. Work of this class involves directing the activities of mechanical maintenance work units.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, subject to 24-hour callback for emergencies. Work is performed in a water or wastewater treatment plant or pumping station where there may be occasional exposure to chemicals, dusts and fumes, moving equipment, extremes of heat and cold and noxious odors. Work may require moderate physical exertion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have five years of experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems, including two years of such supervisory responsibilities as disciplining, evaluating the performance of, and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.
OR
NOTES EQUIVALENCIES: Have six months of additional experience in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems may be substituted for each year of the high school or GED requirement. Completion of one year of the required coursework in a power mechanic or machine shop curriculum in an accredited college, high school or vocational school may be substituted for six months of the experience requirement.
AND
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Have a valid Maryland class C Noncommercial driver's license, or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of complex mechanical systems.
Knowledge of safety standards and practices applicable to the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems.
Ability to analyze defects in mechanical equipment and related systems and to provide corrective measures for resolution of problems.
Ability to develop work procedures that will provide minimum interference with plant operations.
Ability to read, interpret and review engineering plans and specifications.
Ability to maintain records and write reports.
Supervisory ability.
Ability to coordinate mechanical maintenance operations with other disciplines.
Ability to develop in-service training programs for the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment and related systems.
