Your role at Baxter
You will be responsible for implementing an effective occupational health program and providing support for EHS programs at the facility level. This role provides health care services to employees or contractors who become ill or injured on site. In this position you practice within the parameters of professional licensure to ensure consistency with legal, labor, regulatory and corporate requirements. The Occupational Health program elements include but are not limited, immediate care for illness and injury, health surveillance, regulatory compliance, case management and health promotion.

What you'll be doing
- Works independently to design and implement a facility-level occupational health program to meet employee health risks.
- Establishes a system for the immediate care of employee and visitor injuries and illnesses, including coordinating a medical emergency response team. Assures that root cause analysis is performed for all incidents and used to identify corrective and preventive strategies.
- Implements appropriate health surveillance of employees. Examples include required hearing conservation, respiratory surveillance, and reproductive chemical hazards.
- Maintains employee medical records and documentation as required by the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, HIPPA, OSHA standards and the Baxter Healthcare Corporate Occupational Health protocols. Responsible for all required reporting (i.e., OSHA, Workers Compensation, etc.).
- Implement case management program including coordination with other health care professionals, human resources, department managers, and insurance carrier representatives or third-party administrators to facilitate timely return to work and appropriate utilization of benefits. Incorporates knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations (i.e., FMLA, ADA and state-specific workers compensation laws).
- Facilitates the availability of direct or indirect health-related counseling.
- Maintains professional continuing education and secures task-based certification as appropriate to practice (ex. pulmonary function, hearing testing).
- Able to apply ergonomic principles, conduct ergonomic assessments and suggest control measures to reduce risk. Actively supports risk reduction measures for employees experiencing potentially work-related musculoskeletal symptoms.
- Responsible for administrative tasks as needed to support the facility EHS programs and monthly reporting requirements.
What you'll bring
- Registered nurse with current Illinois license to practice required. BSN preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical nurse setting. Occupational health nursing experience preferred.
- Certification in COHN preferred.
- Critical thinking and decision making skills.
- Proficient in computer program use.
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills.
- Certification in CPR/first aid.
- Physically able to respond in emergency situations.
