The Assistant Director of Digital Media serves as a key leader within the Ohio State Athletics Marketing unit, helping provide strategic oversight for the department’s digital presence across official Athletics social media channels, YouTube, and emerging media. Reporting to the Director, Digital this role shapes the department’s digital vision and ensures consistent, engaging representation of the Ohio State brand across all platforms.
The Assistant Director leads the planning and execution of digital content strategies that support fan engagement, brand storytelling, and revenue-generation objectives. Responsibilities include directing social media strategy and guiding the development of emerging digital platforms. The position ensures alignment between digital initiatives and broader marketing goals through close collaboration with the Creative Content, Marketing, Digital Marketing and Communications teams.
The Assistant Director will analyze digital analytics, user behavior, and performance metrics to inform content planning and platform optimization. Provides training and best-practice guidance to communications, marketing, and creative staff to maintain a consistent voice, brand identity, and effective storytelling across all digital channels.
Additionally, the Assistant Director oversees the Athletics Digital Media student intern program, offering mentorship and hands-on learning experiences that support daily content needs and departmental priorities. The Assistant Director is expected to demonstrate innovation, strategic thinking, and a data-informed approach to continually enhance the department’s digital footprint.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred. Two to four years of progressive full-time experience in digital media, social media strategy, content planning, audience engagement, or a related area. Demonstrated experience developing and executing digital content strategies across multiple social platforms, along with strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and analytical skills. Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with creative, communications, and marketing teams. Availability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed in support of athletics events and departmental priorities.
Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field. Experience working in collegiate athletics, higher education, sports, entertainment, or another fast-paced fan-facing environment. Familiarity with social media analytics platforms, content management tools, short-form video workflows, and emerging digital platforms. Experience overseeing student staff, interns, or part-time contributors.
