We are a key partner to some of the largest and highest-growth organizations in the world. From enabling systems to make cities safer and more connected, to powering the data centers behind many of the world’s biggest companies and hyperscale cloud providers, to meeting the massive and ever-growing data storage needs of the AI era, WD is fueling a brighter, smarter future.
Today’s exceptional challenges require your unique skills. Together, we can build the future of data storage.
Job Description
If you’re looking for a role where your code doesn’t just sit in a Git repo—this is it. Our team builds internal tools that power the development of world-class hard disk drives. You won’t be designing the hardware itself—but you will be designing the software tools that help engineers make smarter, faster, data-driven decisions that shape the future of storage technology.
You’ll be solving real problems, not theoretical ones, by turning massive amounts of machine-generated data into insights using Machine Learning, GenAI, LLMs, and more.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Build and maintain custom internal software tools used to process, analyze, and visualize HDD development and production data.
Develop ETL systems, web-based dashboards, ML models, and analytics pipelines that help product engineers innovate.
Contribute to GenAI/LLM use cases—helping select and implement base models and embedding strategies for real-world deployment.
Design prompt and token-based GenAI solutions that support classification, pattern recognition, and trend visualization.
Work hands-on with modern frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), tools (Python, C/C++, Node.js, Kafka), and databases (MongoDB, MySQL, Elasticsearch).
Join in on architecture discussions, code reviews, and collaborative problem solving.
Create internal guides and documentation that make your tools accessible to other engineers.
Work on-site in a close-knit, fast-paced, highly collaborative team that values ownership, curiosity, and continuous learning.
This role is part of WD's early career development program. WD's early career development program is ideal for individuals at the early stages of their professional career. Participants receive foundational training through structured onboarding, mentorship, and a curated development curriculum. The responsibilities of this role are typically aligned with candidates who have approximately 0–2+ years of relevant professional experience, though candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Required:
Currently enrolled or recently graduated with an MS or PhD grad in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you at any point in the future required.
Experience with Python (Jupyter), C/C++, and at least one ML or AI framework (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
Completed coursework or hands-on projects involving GenAI, LLMs, or machine learning.
Comfort working with both relational and non-relational databases.
Bonus if you’ve dabbled in: Kafka, Kubernetes, Jenkins, RESTful APIs, JavaScript, Node.js.
Salary Range: 106,600.00-142,100.00
