Job Overview
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review, verify, and dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently in accordance with physician orders and applicable regulations
- Evaluate medication orders for appropriateness, accuracy, drug interactions, allergies, dosing, and therapeutic duplications
- Provide pharmaceutical consultation and support to nurses, prescribers, facility staff, patients, and caregivers as appropriate
- Supervise and direct the daily activities of Pharmacy Technician I, II, III, and Intake Coordinator staff
- Delegate responsibilities to pharmacy technicians while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations governing technician duties
- Monitor workflow and staffing needs to ensure timely processing and delivery of medications
- Support onboarding, training, coaching, and performance development of pharmacy technician staff
- Assist with scheduling, workflow coordination, and operational problem-solving within the pharmacy
- Ensure compliance with all controlled substance regulations, medication storage requirements, and recordkeeping standards
- Verify and maintain accurate pharmacy documentation, including dispensing records, medication destruction records, and inventory logs
- Participate in medication cart reviews, cycle fill processes, stat order management, and emergency medication services
- Assist with inventory management activities including medication ordering oversight, shortage management, expiration monitoring, and recall procedures
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and company policies
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives, medication safety programs, audits, and continuous process improvement efforts
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy
- Provide training, coaching, performance feedback, and workflow oversight
- Assist with technician competency evaluations and performance improvement initiatives
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and adherence to pharmacy policies and procedures
- Serve as pharmacist-on-duty and provide operational leadership in the absence of pharmacy management as assigned
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of Pharmacy
- Current and active Pharmacist license in the State of Colorado in good standing
- Ability to supervise and direct pharmacy technician staff effectively
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and medication safety standards
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and clinical judgment
