Job Description

The Specimen Management Supervisor oversees the business operations of the reception department within specimen management during their shift (3rd). Operations include but are not limited to: Sample reception and unpacking, Accessioning of frozen samples, quality control of sample accessioning, and delivery of samples to their next destination.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for scheduling of second shift staff.
  • Track and record attendance of second shift staff.
  • Responsible for the delegation of tasks to departmental leads.
  • Ensure allocation of human-power to maximize daily workflows and reallocate human-power as necessary.
  • Monitor daily operations and ensure that standardized workflows and task transition time points are followed.
  • Oversee departmental staff, maintaining training files including completion of training and documentation of competency, providing guidance and correction where needed.
  • Monitor departmental emails and provide prompt responses.
  • Oversee data cleaning requests.
  • Oversee new study or study amendment updates are checked through performance of QC runs upon request.
  • Make requests for study priming updates where applicable.
  • Actively listen to interpersonal conflicts and intercede where appropriate.
  • Actively participate in daily specimen management huddles and weekly specimen management leadership meetings.
  • Coordinate with loading dock neighboring entities to ensure ECL staff is following standardized processes to ensure quality and safety.
  • Actively participate with global management in process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Basic Minimum Requirements: 

  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership position.
  • Ability to work flexible working hours including weekends.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a face paced environment.
  • Ability to set priorities and work accurately under deadlines.
  • Proven problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in 0ffice 365 programs.
  • Authorization to work in the US for any employer, indefinitely, without sponsorship.

The Ideal Candidate would possess: 

  • 2 or 4 year degree in a business, healthcare, or science field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a production environment, preferably in healthcare.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with enterprise-grade application (LIMS preferred).

  • Eagerness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills
